Earlier this week Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon 855 chipset which is the next flagship chip which the entire flagship phones of 2019 will run on, the new chip is built on the 7nm process and promises much-improved battery life while also improving on performance with upgraded CPU and GPU offering much more performance compared to last year.
Qualcomm is also improved big on AI and offers up to 3 times the performance compared to the last gen chips the Snapdragon 845.
There are a lot more features including a new dedicated vision processor which allows the processor to record video up to 4k HDR @ 60fps while only using 25% the power that previous gen chips used. It also offers depth mapping at 60fps improving greatly on augmented reality related applications.
Connectivity wise Qualcomm will be using two modems in the SD 855 as demanded by the phone manufactures whether they want the x24 or the 5G capable x50 modem. The default modem will be the new X24 LTE modem, which is capable of theoretical download speed of up to 2Gbps and uploads speeds up to 316Mbps.
The same day Qualcomm also revealed the new in-display fingerprint sensor which uses ultrasonic sound waves to read the fingerprints of your finger, it’s called the Qualcomm 3D sonic sensor,
The sensor is said to be faster than optical sensors and can detect fingerprints even if they are wet or covered with dust particles.
The Snapdragon 855 will ship with most of the major flagship phones of 2019 and phones with 5G connectivity.
