Former miss Iran spent about a week in the Philippines airport claim asylum. She fought to get it in the south-eastern Asian country. She said that she fears execution in her country because of some politically motivated charges.
A red notice was put out by the Iranian government about her to Interpol. Bahareh Zare Bahari said that all the charges are false. She was accused of assault by an Iranian international in the Philippines. She told that all the accusations were because of her supporting Tehran’s critics in the past.
Because of the red notice, former miss Iran was held in the international airport of Manila. It happened on 17 October when she tried to return to the country.
In the past, she showed support for the activists who were opposing Iran’s government. She now says that she fears that she will be extradited to Tehran. Afterward, she might be jailed or killed by the government.
Bahareh Zare Bahari spoke about it further and told that she studied dentistry in the Philippines since the year 2014. Before being stopped at the airport, she traveled in and out of the country quite often. Iranian government tried to report her a few months ago as well, but she was successful.
She says that now, a fake case is made against her in Iran. If not killed, she can be jailed for at least twenty-five years.
The details are not yet precise, said Phil Robertson at human rights watch. He told that no action would be taken under Iran’s Interpol red notice before getting further details.
